Are your Easter public holidays up to date in payroll?

Easter 2018.jpg

With the silly season behind us, we are in fast pursuit of Easter and ANZAC Day. It is important to have your key dates ready and a clear understanding of Mondayisation, to ensure you are providing Employees with their correct entitlements.

Easter Public Holidays

  • Good Friday - Friday, 7 April

  • Easter Monday - Monday, 10 April

  • ANZAC Day - Tuesday, 25 April

Things to Remember

  • It is important that you ascertain the Employees normal working days, this will assist you with understanding their entitlements. If the Employees hours are varied, review the Employees work patterns over the past four- six weeks to find what their ‘average’ hours of work are.

  • To be entitled to a paid day off on a public holiday, the day must fall on a day that would otherwise be a working day for them; or

  • If the public holiday falls on a weekend (‘calendar date’), then the public holiday will be observed on the next business day (‘observation day’);

  • If the Employee ‘normally’ works on both the calendar date and the observation day, then there is no Mondayisation for the Employee and the public holiday would apply for the calendar date in the first instance - the Employee cannot ‘double dip’ Public Holidays;

  • For scenarios on entitlements, we recommend you check out this link.

As always, the People Passion team are here to assist if you have any further questions relating to this topic.

Have a wonderful Easter!
